A little info about season 4 from Gale Anne Hurd and Robert Kirkman

So we know that the Governor will be in season 4 and a new character but what else may be happening? Well Gale Anne Hurd and Robert Kirkman gave a little info about season 4 and what to expect in the coming season. Of course, they’re only halfway done writing season 4 so things could get changed and whatever else happens in the writers room. But I expect somewhat of a slow start of the season with more character development until the Governor comes back for another attack.

Gale Anne Hurd talking about season 4:

Asked how Season 4 will be able to top the human threat of the Governor — if, of course, he is defeated by the end of Season 3 — Hurd said that the writers are working on just that. However, she teased that the first eight episodes of Season 4 will remind audiences that the undead remain just as big a threat to Rick and his crew as the other humans populating the post-apocalyptic Georgia are.

“We are going to amp up the threat of the walkers, because they’ve started to seem like a manageable threat. They are not a manageable threat,” she said. “But, it is the people who you think you can trust who betray you, that you have to fear. It is the monster inside you. We all have them. How do we keep them in check?”

Asked for elaboration, Hurd implied that someone from within Rick’s camp is going to turn on him. “You never know who is going to, you know, who is going to be the one who’s had enough. Like, Shane saw Rick as a threat to their survival. He’s not the only one who’s going to have those feelings.”

Robert Kirkman on what to expect from season 4:

Season 4 is all about change. We’re going to see a lot has changed in the prison. I think a lot has changed with these characters. I think we’re going to see a very different Rick with very different motives and we’ll see how this conflict with Woodbury and the death of Andrea has affected everybody. And we’ll see a lot of new elements, as we do on every season of the Walking Dead. It’s going to be exciting and different and cool but it’ll still have zombies with it. It’ll still have the things that everybody loves.

“We’re working out Season 4 right now – we’re halfway through writing it – and we know exactly where we’re going. Who’s dying and when they’re dying is all worked out very early on as we’re plotting out the entire season. It’s something that we always know where we’re going with it.”

“I’ll say that there are a lot of familiar elements that are remaining. Michonne is still around, Rick and his group are still in the prison, the Governor’s still out there… so there are a lot of things that are carrying over from Season 3 to Season 4, but I can’t stress how different things are going to be. There are going to be some radical changes to those elements that are going to bring in a lot of new storytelling. While [Season 4] does seem somewhat familiar, it’s going to be vastly different from Season 3.”
