Tyreese finds prison, Rick rescues Glenn and Maggie, Michonne fights the Governor, and Daryl gets captured

So the season 3 mid-season finale was last night and it was exciting but there was a lot happening in it. Read and watch the summary of episode 8 “Made to Suffer” here. Preview videos of episode 9 in February when the show returns are down below.

Episode 8 starts with Tyreese and his small group finding their way to the back of the prison with a downed fence. Tyreese has his younger sister Sasha, Allen and Donna, a couple with their son Ben. If you read the comics then you’ve heard some of those names before, as Allen and Donna in the show are younger and Ben looks to be a teenager. At the prison, Axel gives everyone a creepy vibe and Carol makes sure he knows. I’m hoping he doesn’t turn into a psycho later in the season.

At Woodbury, Rick and the others use smoke grenades to get Glenn and Maggie away from Merle and some others. Glenn and Maggie tell the others that Merle is here and he’s not a good guy. Daryl wants to find Merle but Rick tells him that he needs him to get out of there. Michonne goes off to find the Governor and kill him. Why you ask? Read below for the answer from Robert Kirkman and Glen Mazzara. Rick’s group and some from Woodbury are in a shootout. Rick has a hallucination and sees Shane and because of him freezing, Oscar gets shot. Daryl lays down cover fire while the others escape. Michonne finds Penny and the heads in a fishtank. The Governor comes and doesn’t want Michonne to hurt her. Michonne though kills Penny with a sword through her head and the Governor goes into a rage and fights Michonne. The Governor smashes Michonne’s head into the fishtanks and then Michonne pulls some off the shelf and they smash onto the floor. While they’re on the floor, Michonne fights to reach a piece of glass and stabs the Governor in his right eye. As Michonne is about to finish the Governor, Andrea comes in and pulls her gun on Michonne. They stare at each other and Michonne leaves. Andrea sees the heads on the floor and the Governor crying while holding his dead walker daughter.

Back at the prison, Carl helps Tyreese’s group by taking out some walkers in the generator room and leads them to the common room and locks them in.

At the end, we see that Daryl has been caught and the Governor tells the others at Woodbury that Merle is a traitor and they’re terrorists. He asks the crowd what should they do to them as Andrea looks on in disbelief.

Yes, that was Shane that Rick was seeing in his hallucination

Glen Mazzara: We wanted to amp up Rick’s hallucinations. We have this thing from the comic book in which he’s talking to Lori on the phone and it would not be realistic to suddenly have him back to square one and all of that was forgotten. So the idea that these hallucinations would escalate and become visual is interesting, I think. Especially under duress. Rick has a type of post-traumatic stress syndrome that he’s fighting there. So we kept that a secret and called Jon. And Jon was game to come back, and we were really looking forward to seeing the audience reaction when they see that because sometimes spoilers do get out, but we were bale to keep that one a secret. So I was happy with that. Source: EW

The Governor turning on Merle

Glen Mazzara: Well, Merle came back and said he killed Michonne. So he lied. And he’s also responsible for bringing these guys there by bringing Glenn and Maggie. That was not Merle’s job. Merle lied about Michonne and that cost the Governor his own daughter Penny. So that’s what that’s about. Source: EW

Robert Kirkman: He blames Merle for the fact that he wasn’t prepared for a confrontation with Michonne. And actually Michonne is coming after the Governor because she knows the Governor sent Merle to kill her. So all of that was set in motion by Merle not only not killing her but lying to to the Governor. Source: EW

The Walking Dead trailer for season 3 returning in February

In the above video, at 0:08 seconds, Glenn is talking to Michonne saying that they can end this tonight and Maggie doesn’t like it. At 0:12 seconds, Andrea is going to the prison to see Rick’s group, using a walker so other walkers don’t smell her. At 0:14 seconds the Governor is looking through a gun’s scope, most likely having followed Andrea to the prison and going to shoot at them. At 0:15 seconds, we see Daryl running through the forest so he doesn’t die at Woodbury. At 0:20 seconds, Glenn and Michonne meet up with Rick and probably Daryl and Merle, as Glenn doesn’t like whoever Rick is bringing back, most likely Merle. At 0:21 seconds looks like a truck busts through the prison’s gate just barely missing Michonne. At 0:24 seconds, Carl tells Rick that maybe he should stop being the leader anymore. At 0:28 seconds, Beth gives Rick a kiss on the cheek.

So from this video, here’s what I think happens in the next episode. Rick tells the others to go on back to the prison without him and he’ll get Daryl. The next day, Glenn and Michonne decide to go back to help Rick. Glenn and Michonne find Rick, Daryl and Merle in the forest on their way back. Andrea makes her way to the prison to see Rick’s group and the Governor follows her there.

Here’s a huge guess that I think may happen because of the last episode where Axel asks how old Beth is and Carol doesn’t like it. What’s the purpose of showing this? Most likely to set something else up in the upcoming episodes. And why would Beth be giving Rick a kiss on the cheek? Maybe because he brought back Maggie? I think Axel will try to rape Beth, Rick kills Axel or severely hurts him (like Rick did to Thomas in the comic) and Carl thinks maybe someone else should lead the group after seeing that? This could then lead to a Rick and Tyreese argument that happens in the comic.

There was also some Talking Dead news last night, you know, the show that comes on later after each episode Sunday night. Well, in February when The Walking Dead comes back, the Talking Dead show will air right after the episode and it will be an hour long. Hopefully they have good guests that watch the show and/or are involved in it.
