Issue #5 starts with Rick and Shane training the group how to shoot guns. Rick even has Carl practicing which Lori doesn’t like much. When they’re done practicing, Shane jokes with the group saying that Rick and him were worried three weeks ago when they started practicing. So three weeks have passed in the story since the last issue.
Donna seems to have an issue with Andrea and Amy staying with Dale in his RV. Shane, Rick and Dale go into the woods to get some wood to bring back to camp. Rick says something about it probably getting cold that night and Shane goes off, telling Rick that he’s sick and tired of hearing “his shit” and knows it’s cold but they’re not moving the camp.
The group has a fish fry dinner, all sitting around the open fire eating and talking. They go around the camp fire telling Rick what they did before all of this happened. Amy gets up to go use the bathroom. When Amy comes out of the RV she is attacked by a zombie and is bit on her neck. The camp site is now being attacked by a group of zombies. The group manages to survive the attack, even with Carl taking out a zombie, but Amy dies and Andrea makes sure she doesn’t come back as a zombie. The group notices that Jim has been bitten in the attack.
