It’s night, Shane is on watch on top of the RV and Rick startles him as he goes up there to talk to him about moving the camp somewhere else. Shane disagrees and thinks they should stay there and wait for the government to rescue them. Rick thinks they should move because they don’t know when/if the government is coming to help, as it’s getting colder and with the recent zombies attacking, it’s not safe there anymore. Shane gets angry and says that they’re staying there and Rick lets the argument go, but if they’re going to stay then everyone should be carrying a gun.
The next day, Rick plans to go with Glenn to a gun store in the city. Glenn looks on the map and sees the store is five blocks from where he found Rick, and says that he never goes that far in. Rick has an idea and walks to where he and Shane killed a zombie yesterday. Rick tells Glenn that the zombies never seem to mistake one of them for one of us and they don’t attack each other, so it’s most likely the smell that makes them tell the alive from the dead. Rick chops off a zombie’s hand and they rub it on their clothes. They head towards the city and test their idea with a zombie and it seems to work as the zombie didn’t attack them.
Rick and Glenn find the gun store, break in and load up a shopping cart full of guns and ammo. They exit the gun store and it starts to rain. Rick kills a zombie with his hatchet and they start running with the cart. They notice that the rain is washing the smell off of them and the zombies can now smell them. The shopping cart tips over and they hurry to put whatever guns and ammo back in it. A zombie bites at Rick’s shoulder but only gets his jacket. They manage to escape the zombies and head back to the camp. Meanwhile at the camp, Lori is out in the rain worrying about Rick. Shane tries to get Lori to come out of the rain and says he can keep her company. Lori tells Shane that he has to stop now because Rick is back. Shane asks what about that night when they had sex. Lori says it was a mistake.
