SPOILERS ahead! Leave now if you haven’t yet watched season 6 episode 10 “The Next World” yet. Read the full recap of episode 10 “The Next World” here.

In episode 10 on Sunday night we see that there was a time skip between the last episode and this episode (two months according to Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne, on Talking Dead), Rick and Daryl go on a supply run and they meet a new character, Spencer and Michonne find a walker in the woods, and two characters get physical in a holding hands, then some kissing that leads to love-making kind of way.

First, let’s talk about the new character that Rick and Daryl meet and bring back to Alexandria. Jesus, Paul Rovia, is the new character and he appears to be a highly skilled fighter, similar to the comics. In the comics, Jesus’s real name is Paul Monroe, but not in the TV show as Monroe was Deanna’s last name so they didn’t want to confuse viewers, hence the last name of Rovia.

The walker that Spencer and Michonne found in the woods was Deanna. This was a good storyline, to see Spencer put down his walker mom with some help from Carl, but it was also a little odd. It’s odd to me in that, Deanna most likely died in the house in episode 8 where she yelled and shot at walkers in the upstairs hallway. Her body didn’t look to be torn up from walkers though, she somehow made it downstairs without breaking her legs as a walker, she exited the house and got out of Alexandria (through the opening in the wall?). So walker Deanna wasn’t attracted to the huge fire from episode 9 or any of the noise of Rick’s group taking out other walkers? And for two months walker Deanna was in the nearby forest just walking around? This doesn’t really make much sense to me… but it’s a TV show, so I guess we can let it slide.

Last but not least was most likely everyone’s favorite part of the show, Michonne and Rick lock hands, look at each other, kiss and that leads to them making love. #Richonne is alive! Then a supposedly captured Jesus wakes Rick and Michonne up, wanting to talk to Rick. Even though this storyline doesn’t happen in the comics (Rick and Michonne have never had a romantic interaction in the comics, not yet anyways), I did enjoy seeing them come together and become more than friends. I also enjoy seeing interracial relationships on TV more, it’s 2016 folks, and sadly there are still people out there who won’t like this scene because it’s two people of different races.

Scott Gimple on how the Rick-Michonne relationship came together:

“It was all about finding an everyday context. It was all about having these two characters come to realize that their intimacy and bond extended beyond friendship. Alexandria, in the state it’s currently in, gave them the moment to come to that realization. And that’s a super clinical, mathematical analysis of romance. So I’ll say this: These are two people who have found kindred spirits in each other, strength, respect, support, loyalty. But the world has been screaming in their faces and clawing at them for a good part of their acquaintance. For all they’ve been through, when the world stopped screaming and clawing for them, they realized what they had.”

These are two people who have suddenly realized – pretty much at exactly the same time, on that couch – what they already had together and who they already were to each other. This isn’t a one-night stand. And what they have was already there, before they even kissed.
