Episode 6 was the return of the Governor where they did a flashback to after the Governor gunned down all of the Woodbury “soldiers” after the prison attack in Season 3 Episode 16 – Welcome to the Tombs. We see that the Governor, Martinez and Shumpert set up a small camp site for the night, but by the morning, the Governor is the only one there as the other two left some time in the night. The Governor then goes to Woodbury and burns it down. He then wanders alone for two months and comes across an apartment building with a little girl looking out the window at him. He most likely thinks he’s seeing Penny, his passed away daughter, and he goes into the apartment building. He meets two sisters, Tara and Lilly and tells them his name is Brian Heriot, a name he noticed on the side of a house during his travels. Lilly has a daughter named Meghan who the Governor later gets friendly with as she reminds him of Penny. The next day, the Governor goes to a nursing home to get any oxygen tanks for the sister’s father David, who is dying from lung cancer and won’t last for very long.

Days later, David dies and attacks Tara but the Governor smashes David’s head with an oxygen tank, saving Tara but traumatizing Meghan. Later, the Governor is going to leave but Lilly insists that the three of them going with him. They hit the road in David’s truck and at night in the back of the truck, Lilly gets a little naughty with the Governor while Meghan and Tara are right next to them (awkward moment). In the morning the truck won’t start so they go on foot. They soon run into a group of walkers and Tara sprains her ankle. Lilly helps Tara while Meghan freezes and won’t go to the Governor at first. Meghan eventually leaps into the Governor’s arms and they run. The Governor falls into a walker-pit with Meghan and he then proceeds to fight off a few walkers protecting Meghan. The Governor holds Meghan while looking up at Martinez who is shocked to see him while the Governor swears to protect Meghan.

The real The Walking Dead fans will have enjoyed this episode as it further develops the Governor, using material from the Governor’s novel (I have not read the novel yet but many have said this), as this episode really does separate the real The Walking Dead fans from the fake fans. Fake fans are those who just watch the show to mainly see one character (*cough* Daryl fangirls/boys) and those who want the show to be just 24/7 zombie kills.

Episode 7 “Dead Wight” next week
It looks like next week’s episode will also focus on the Governor. The description for episode 7 “Dead Weight” is: A new and scary chapter is unfolding at a camp outside the prison. Will peace be attainable with the addition of new members?
