The Walking Dead renewed for season 4 but showrunner Glen Mazzara won’t be part of it

Well The Walking Dead is on a break until February but there is some news about the TV show. The Walking Dead has been renewed on AMC for a fourth season, which is great, but showrunner Glen Mazzara is leaving after season 3.

It appears that AMC and Glen Mazzara had a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward. Of course we all know that the original showrunner, Frank Darabont, left during season 2, with rumors about AMC not wanting to spend money on the show (budget was slashed from season 1 but season 2 had more episodes – what the f?) and Glen Mazzara took over for Darabont. So I wouldn’t be shocked if it was similar where AMC wanted to slow down the pace in season 4 and not have a large budget for the show and maybe Mazzara wanted to keep the pace going in season 4 as the pace in season 3. That’s just speculation on my part but maybe some information will come out in the following weeks/months.

“Both parties acknowledge that there is a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward, and conclude that it is best to part ways,” AMC and Mazzara said in a joint statement. “This decision is amicable and Glen will remain on for post-production on season 3B as showrunner and executive producer.”

Mazzara also issued his own statement following the announcement.

“My time as showrunner on The Walking Dead has been an amazing experience, but after I finish season 3, it’s time to move on,” he said. “I have told the stories I wanted to tell and connected with our fans on a level that I never imagined. It doesn’t get much better than that. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey.”

So what do you think about this whole situation? Do you think the leaving of Mazzara will hurt the show?

Happy Holidays everyone!
